FRAGRANCE IN THE GARDEN OF LAUGHTER AND OTHER THINGS
Nicole Dunn's works, which will be shown at CHASA JAURA, cover a period of four decades.
In a brown clay pot full of finely ground rose petals, Nicole Dunn shows a kind of extract from this period. The title UND SCHEERT IHR ROSENBAERTLEIN AB goes back to a line of poems from "Schnurrmilch" by Hans Arp, to which Unica Zürn has written 6 wonderful anagrams.
Nicole Dunn's works dematerialise the source material and turn it into a symbol, so that one could sometimes speak of devotional objects in praise of life, love and death.
From the collection of natural materials, such as petals of roses, cornflowers, etc., various objects and images are created using beeswax. The many rose balls of different sizes made of petals of roses and beeswax deserve special mention.
A great source of inspiration for the artist are the tapestries The Lady with Unicorn from the Musée de Cluny in Paris, in which the 5 senses are thematised and from which she quotes in her works in a varied and associative way. What is important to her is the choice of material and the metaphor. The precision work under the magnifying glass is a further characteristic of her work.
Despite all her intimacy and seriousness, it can also be laughed at. And the artist does not hide the fact that she enjoys making beautiful objects similar to jewellery: „des objets du désir“.
Vera Malamud
"All secrets are about animals being mediators between man and his origin" John Berger
Animals are a recurring theme in Vera Malamud's work.
A room in the Chasa Jaura is now transformed into a bestiary by Vera Malamud.
Among other things, a series of small drawings from the series 366 Mal Kopfstehen 2000-2002, which deal exclusively with animals, can be seen. Sometimes with irony, sometimes with cynicism, the animals are brought into strange, absurd, ambiguous and memorable contexts. The bestiary is complemented by works by Nicole Dunn and Pascal Lampert.
In the large drawing Aperion 2013, which is shown in the hall, a scenario takes place that seems to hold something together, that can no longer be stopped, in a deserted but not forgotten universe.
Pascal Lampert
universes
The works shown by Pascal Lampert in the exhibition SENSINN all have a strong connection to the universe. For example, in the work notizchas da sulai / Sonnennotitzen 2017, in which Lampert for one month each day attached a fresh post-it note in the colors neon yellow, pink and green to his studio window and had it bleached by the sun. The individual sheets were then recorded with the video camera in macro shots and are now masked round, similar to a moon, projected onto the inner wall in the attic of the Chasa Jaura. In the basement of the house, a new video animation, specially developed for this exhibition, spreads out a further universe with the archive of the dried drops. For this work, Pascal Lampert collected water samples throughout the canton of Graubünden during the years 2014-2016. The samples, which were collected, dated and labelled with the coordinates of the recording location and its field name, were dripped in Petri dishes in the studio. As soon as the water droplets dried up, the dark coating of the Petri dishes revealed a wide variety of universes under the microscope.
In the Chasa Jaura storage cellar, Pascal Lampert, together with Nicole Dunn, created an audible universe from her vast archive of anagrams, which she created for the titles of her works.
